Addressing

Faribault County's GIS Department coordinates assigning new addresses and sign replacement.  Property owners must pay a $150.00 fee for new or replacement sign installations.  The cost of sign replacement if destroyed is solely that of the property owner.

New addresses are assigned during the Building Permit process.  Public Works will install the address sign at the driveway. Signs are not to be moved from the placement location.

Addressing Guidelines

Avenues

  • North-South bound roads are Avenues (Ave)
  • Road numbers increase from W to E
  • 310th Ave is on the west county line
  • 610th Ave is on the east county line

Streets

  • East-West bound roads are Streets (St)
  • Road numbers increase from S to N
  • 10th St is on the south county line
  • 250th St in on the north county line

House Numbers

  • Addresses are determined where the driveway intersects the road
  • E side of Ave are even
  • W side of Ave are odd
  • S side of St are even
  • N side of St are odd

Generally roads that are located on full mile marks end with a zero, ex. 10th St, 20th St, 30th St, etc.  A road 7 tenths of a mile north of 10th St would be named 17th St.

The same logic used to determine a road name is used to determine a driveway's address.  For example, a driveway on 200th St is located between 320th Ave and 330th Ave on the north side of the road.  GIS software measures the location at .753 miles east of 320th Ave.  Since the driveway is on the north side of 200th St, the last digit is odd and the last three digits of the address would be 753.  The new address would be 32753 200th St.

Property Located in City Limits

If your property is located in city limits, contact City Hall to have an address assigned. The GIS Department only assigns rural addresses located outside city limits.
