Multipurpose Drainage BMPs Put to Work

This short video highlights Multipurpose Drainage Best Management Practices put to work on a private landowner scale. Topics covered include construction of a saturated buffer and bioreactor, in addition to management practices such as tillage and implementation of cover crops.

Multipurpose Drainage utilizes best management practices designed to provide the benefits of drainage while minimizing negative impacts downstream. It targets critical areas to reduce erosion, reduce peak flows and flooding, and improve water quality while protecting drainage system efficiency. These goals can be achieved through both surface practices (cover crops, reduced tillage, nutrient management) and subsurface practices (tiles).
