Employee Benefits

Faribault County provides a comprehensive, balanced and competitive benefits package as part of a total compensation package. The County’s benefit program addresses both the immediate needs, such as health insurance coverage and your long-term needs such as retirement savings.

The following outline the County-offered benefits and serves as an overview. This does not provide all provisions, limitations or exclusions. If there are contradictions between descriptions and the official plan documents, the plan documents will prevail. Benefits offered are subject to change at any time. Newly hired, benefit eligible employees are eligible for coverage the first of the month following completion of 30 days of employment.

Pay Dates

County employees are paid via direct deposit on a bi-weekly schedule with paydays being every other Friday. New employees receive their first paycheck by paper, and direct deposit information is verified with that payroll.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

Faribault County believes that vacation time is important in order to maintain a healthy and productive work-life balance. Paid time off accruals, utilization rules vary within each collective bargaining group and for non-union staff.

Health Insurance

Faribault County’s benefit plan gives employees an opportunity to select a plan that suits personal needs and goals. The County makes monthly employer contributions toward the premium, those rates are adjusted annually by the Board of Commissioners.

HSA/VEBA Health Savings Accounts

The County offers HSA/VEBA accounts in conjunction with the high deductible health plan (HDHP) offering established in Faribault County. The County contributes annually to this plan if the high deductible health plan is selected, making certain Federal guidelines are followed.

Voluntary Benefits

Several additional voluntary employee benefits are available to benefit eligible employees Central Services Department can provide additional information pertaining to these voluntary plans. These voluntary plans are subject to change and are reviewed annually at open enrollment employee meetings for all benefit eligible staff.

Flexible Spending Account

Faribault County has established a Flexible Spending Account (Section 125 Plan) as an optional benefit for eligible employees, including both Healthcare and Dependent Care.

Dental/Vision/CIGNA Coverage Plans

The County offers options for dental and vision insurance coverage. CIGNA also offers employee paid options for consideration.

Life Insurance

A $30,000 policy is paid by Faribault County for benefit eligible employees. Additional life insurance coverage on employee, spouses and dependents is also available. This additional life insurance coverage is voluntary and employee paid.

Short and Long Term Disability Insurance

Short and Long Term disability coverage is available to benefit eligible employees.

Deferred Compensation Plans

The County provides several optional deferred compensation plans that employees may use to supplement their retirement planning.

Retirement PERA Program

Employees of Faribault County participate in Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). Both the employee and employer make contributions in accordance with current plan standards.

Employee Assistance Program

Any employee has available to them a confidential counseling service that provides short-term assistance for issues related to finances, work, chemical dependency, stress, relationships or other life concerns.

Fitness membership group discounts are available to Faribault County employees. Discount rates are dependent on number of total Faribault County employee memberships.
